The Associations coop\u00e9rative d\u2019\u00e9conomie familiale (ACEF) were created in the mid-1960s. It was a turning point in history: the first consumer rights advocacy movements emerged as a counterweight to mass consumption society. During this period, despite long hours of labour, workers struggled to make ends meet.<\/p>\n
Pressure from social and union movements enabled consumer protection policies and reforms, which led to the establishment of the Office de la protection du consommateur and, subsequently, the Consumer Protection Act. Particularly significant laws were established to support people in difficulty.<\/p>\n
Continuing this legacy, the ACEF du Sud-Ouest de Montr\u00e9al was established in 1984. Despite modest initial funding, it offered a range of personal finance services to the public, including training, workshops, individual consultation, information and education documentation.<\/p>\n
The ACEF du Sud-Ouest de Montr\u00e9al continues to work and to innovate. We\u2019re continuously developing new tools and growing the association while being mindful of the concerns of citizens in financial difficulties. We never stop assessing their needs and evolving with them!<\/p>\n
